The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This is a fourth row logger select thinning of approximately 288 acres of 17 to 26 year old planted slash pine and a clearcut of 14 acres of 24 year old planted loblolly pine on John M. Bethea State Forest in Baker County, Florida. Timber to be removed from the thinning area includes every fourth row and select trees in remaining rows in order to reach a basal area of 70 square feet per acre. Timber to be removed in select rows will be harvested based on the following criteria: diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees shall be harvested first, followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. The Target basal area per acre and/or number of trees per acre can be adjusted by the Forester-In-Charge as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions. Timber to be removed from the clearcut area includes all merchantable pine timber within the sale boundaries. Sale boundaries are roads, firelines, or wetlands. Decks and skid trails are designated with blue paint on all blocks to be thinned. Estimated volumes to be removed are 9,864 tons of pulpwood and 1,363 tons of chip-and-saw or better. Interested parties may obtain complete bid information by contacting Richard Saltzman at (904) 259-2122.
