Administration

1. South Florida Community College Request for Establishment of Special Purpose Centers in Arcadia and Wauchula.

Section 240.147(6), Florida Statutes, directs the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission to "advise the State Board of Education regarding the need for and location of new programs, institutions, campuses and instructional centers of public postsecondary education." On January 25, 2001, the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission approved a request by South Florida Community College for a special purpose center in the community of Wauchula and the community of Arcadia and recommends approval by the State Board of Education.

2. Ocoee Charter School vs. the School Board of Orange County.

On November 21, 2000, the Orange County School Board failed to act on the application for a charter of the Ocoee Charter School. This appeal is brought to the State Board of Education pursuant to Chapter 228.056, Florida Statutes, which includes provisions governing the appeal process for charter school applicants.

(ATTACHMENT 2) DEFERRED TO THE APRIL 24TH CABINET MEETING AT THE REQUEST OF THE APPLICANT AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF ORANGE COUNTY

3. Archer Learning Academy vs. Duval County School Board. This charter school appeal was deferred at the request of the applicant and the School Board of Duval County from the February 6, 2001 Cabinet meeting.

On November 21, 2000, the Duval County School Board voted to deny the application for a charter of the Archer Learning Academy. This appeal is brought to the State Board of Education pursuant to Chapter 228.056, Florida Statutes, which includes provisions governing the appeal process for charter school applicants. This item was deferred from February 6, 2001, at the request of the application and school board.

4. MESTA Charter School vs. the School Board of Orange County.

On December 4, 2000, the Polk County School Board voted to deny the application for MESTA Charter School. This appeal is brought to the State Board of Education pursuant to Chapter 228.056, Florida Statutes, which includes provisions governing the appeal process for charter school applicants.
