Life InsuranceThe State of Florida offers eligible retirees term life insurance, including an accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) benefit through Minnesota Life Insurance Company. COBRA eligible individuals can only continue State Life Insurance by
converting to an individual policy through Minnesota Life. Coverage and PremiumsThere are two levels of coverage for retirees: $10,000 of coverage or $2,500 of coverage. Retirees contribute $29.65 per month for $10,000 of coverage and $7.41 per month for $2,500 of coverage. Accidental Death & Dismemberment AD&DBasic life insurance coverage includes AD&D coverage. In the event of accidental death or dismemberment, payment will be made based on the injury's severity - equal to between 25% and 100% of the coverage amount. You Name Your BeneficiaryDeath benefits will be paid to your named beneficiary(ies). Make sure to keep your beneficiary designation up to date. Otherwise the benefit will default according to policy provisions. Accelerated Death BenefitThe life program includes an advanced benefit if a covered member receives a terminal illness diagnosis that anticipates death within a one-year period. You may be eligible for an advanced payment of up to 100% of your life insurance benefits.
