Candidate Services - Exam Review
- Q. I failed my pencil and paper exam, what options do I have besides applying to retake?
A. Each candidate who takes and fails a State of Florida developed examination is given an Informal Review and Formal Hearing Information Sheet. Some National examinations vendors have different Review regulations. This information sheet is distributed along with failing grade reports. It outlines the review process, fee, method of payment, and time frames involved in requesting a review. - Q. I failed my barber or restricted barber practical exam, how do I review it?
A. You may receive a copy of your original grade sheets by completing the Barbers/Restricted Barbers Practical Post-Examination Review Form. Mail the form and $10.00 within 21 days of your exam.
- Q. What consideration can be given, if I only fail my exam by one point?
A. Points cannot and will not be given to any candidate that failed the exam even by one point. Candidate must earn a pass on the exam or receive credit as a result of his or her challenge that would result in a status change. In certain occasions when a vendor, during a quality audit of the examination, decides a question has more than one correct answer, they may issue an Amended Grade Report that may result in a status change.
- Q. What should a candidate do if an exam site conditions may be influencing the ability of my exam performance?
If a candidate believes that testing conditions, such as noise, lighting, interruptions, etc. are negatively impacting his or her ability to concentrate on the exam, they should immediately seek the Exam Supervisor, at the site, and inform him or her of the condition. No consideration will be given to such comments after the exam administration.
- Q. When should I submit my request for a review?
A. Requests for a review must be received within a specified time period (generally 21 days) from the mailing date or as in Construction exam, receiving date, on the original grade report.
- Q. What information will I be provided at my review?
A. Examination questions, answers, grades, papers and grading key used for that examination. It identifies to the candidate exactly which question was missed and the correct answer for that question. Candidate will not be able to see their original exam book since it is not retained, after the exam.
- Q. What are the fees for a review?
A. The fees for this service range from $25.00 to $150.00, depending on which professional examination is being reviewed.

- Q. How will I know when my review is scheduled?
A. Pencil and paper candidates are notified in writing of their review appointment. This letter will contain specific information concerning the date, time and location of the review along with guidelines governing the review session.
- Q. If I schedule to retake my exam for the next testing cycle will I be able to review my test before my exam date?
A. Candidates will be scheduled and review the most current exam failed, before the next exam cycle. However, in accordance with Rule 61-11.017 (3)© a candidate may not participate in a review during the twenty-one (21) day period immediately prior to his or her next examination attempt. Please be aware that in some instances due to circumstance beyond the control of the State of Florida, some review sessions may be scheduled less than twenty-one days prior to the candidate exam and therefore the candidate will not be able to test during the next scheduled exam cycle.
- Q. What kind of a response can I expect to receive if I submit challenges?
A. Due to the confidential nature of the examinations, the only response you will receive is "credit" or "no credit" for each challenged question. However, if you do feel that the answer you originally gave deserves further action, then you will have to persue the matter further through the Formal Hearing process which is explained in the response material you will receive as a result of your challenge.
- Q. I took a Computer based examination and failed, how do I schedule for a Review?
A. If you failed your Computer Based examination, then you will have to follow the information given to you at the site with your Grade Report. You have to request a Review and pay the appropriate fee to the vendor who will schedule you for the Review process. At that time you may write your challenges which will be forwarded to the Bureau for review and determination.
- Q. Who will send me the response to my challenges for the Computer based examination?
A. The Bureau of Education and Testing will send you the response which will only contain “credit” or “no credit” for each challenged question.
