Department of Business and Professional Regulation Announces the E-Career Fair

Addition to DBPR Website will help students choose a career

Tallahassee (FL)—The Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is providing high schools, community colleges, and vocational-technical schools access to its newly developed “E-Career Fair.”   The online career directory is located on the Department’s website and gives students and administrators easy online access to the licensure requirements for the professions that the Department regulates.   

“Florida’s students are now choosing career tracks as early as high school,” DBPR Secretary Holly Benson said. “In an effort to help them learn about the professions we regulate, we created the E-Career Fair with profiles of many of our professionals.”

The site includes a page for each category of professional licensed by the Department, with information on the requirements to get licensed, the number of licensed professionals currently in the field, average salary, some fun facts, and a picture of the professional at work.  The Department of Business and Professional Regulation licenses nearly 1,000,000 businesses and professionals including construction and electrical contractors, barbers and cosmetologists, architects and interior designers, surveyors and mappers, talent and athlete agents, and more.  

“This is a first step in becoming more of a resource to Florida’s schools and students,” Secretary Benson added, “and we hope this effort will encourage more students to enter these important professions.”

The Department will be providing a link to Florida’s school districts and community colleges in order to provide access through their sites and will work with them to expand the site’s utility.

“The Department of Professional Regulation is to be commended for providing such a valuable resource to students and parents throughout Florida,” Bill Montford Florida Association of District School Superintendents CEO said.  “Through the use of E-Career Fair, our students will have easy access to additional information that will help them make more informed choices relative to career tracks.”
