Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Serve Emergency Suspension Order on MJ's Saloon
July 10, 2008
Titusville– The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (ABT), with assistance from the Titusville Police Department, served an Emergency Suspension Order on MJ's Saloon, 316 South Hopkins, Ave. in Titusville Tuesday night.
ABT issued the order specifically against MJ's Saloon’s alcoholic beverage license, due to an immediate danger to the health, safety and welfare of the general public. The establishment has had repeated narcotics and firearm violations. Titusville Police reported over 300 calls for service by police officers at the bar this year.
“DBPR is dedicated to making sure that our licensees don’t endanger the citizens and visitors of Florida,” said Interim Secretary Chuck Drago. “Working closely with local law enforcement is essential in protecting Floridians, and I thank the Titusville Police Department for their partnership.”
Around midnight, officers in plainclothes entered the bar and moved to secure the office and restrooms. Approximately one minute after the officers entered, the Titusville SWAT team entered and announced their presence. Officers seized illegal drugs, including cocaine and marijuana, and one gun. Several individuals were arrested and transported to jail by Titusville Police.
The mission of ABT is to keep alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of underage persons, to ensure that licensed establishments are in compliance with the laws and rules regulating the industry in Florida, and to collect taxes and fees related to these industries.
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The Department licenses more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
