The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This sale is a fourth row operator select thinning of approximately 317 acres of planted pine on John M Bethea State Forest (SFI Certified Forest #NSF-SFI-FM-C0245755) in Baker County, Florida. Timber to be removed from the thinning area includes every fourth row and select trees in remaining rows in order to reach target basal areas. Stands will be thinned to 70-80 square feet per acre. Timber to be removed in select rows will be harvested based on the following criteria: diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees shall be harvested first, followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. Loading decks and skid trails have been marked in blue paint. Sale boundaries include roads, forest boundaries, flagged lines or obvious timber type changes. The estimated volume to be removed includes 9,536 tons of pine pulpwood and 1,038 tons of chip-n-saw and better. This will be a twelve (12) month contract.
