Adoption Benefits

Thinking About Adoption?

See Explore Adoption and use the DCFS online resources to see available children, understand steps in the approval process or link to adoption resources.

As a state employee you may be eligible for an adoption assistance benefit administered by The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Office of Family Safety. If you adopt a child (or children) who are in permanent state custody or have been placed with a licensed Florida child-placing agency, you may qualify to receive a one-time benefit of up to $10,000 from the state. To be eligible, you must be in a regular salaried position.

Monetary Benefit

You may apply to receive a $5,000 or $10,000 monetary benefit during the DCFS adoption benefits enrollment period – usually held from mid-summer through October. If you adopt or plan to adopt, you may receive a one-time payment of $5,000 for a non-special needs child or $10,000 for a special needs child. Part-time employees receive a prorated monetary benefit. Benefits are available based on annual legistative funding, and awards are subject to payroll taxes.
